‘It’s everywhere’: State launches lookup tool for national opioid settlements

Virginia localities now can see the estimated amount they will receive from multibillion-dollar  national opioid settlements to help with prevention and treatment in the ongoing opioid crisis. The recently established Opioid Abatement Authority released on Dec. 7 a  lookup tool for localities to search the projected settlement funds estimated through fiscal 2039.


Virginia lawmakers, advocates ‘ready to fight’ for abortion access

RICHMOND, Va. — Abortion access is anticipated to push voters to the polls in the wake of a Supreme Court decision earlier this year.

Democrats have rallied voters around the issue for months, hoping to drive turnout in an election that will determine the balance of power in Congress. But, the issue has also galvanized Republican voters, according to Jatia Wrighten, a political science assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University.

After Spanberger win, Virginia ‘may be on the list of purple states in 2024’

U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., stayed busy on Election Day, meeting voters at polling locations across Virginia’s 7th District in a closely watched race.

Voter Janet Evans did not expect to run into the congresswoman at Lewis and Clark Elementary school in Caroline County. Months earlier, she did not even know much about Spanberger, but redistricting had put Evans on the campaign team’s call list.
